Veterans Recreation Center Opens

February 12, 2015 ChpHillP6 American Legion, Veterans Center at Post 6

We are opening our new Post Veterans Recreation and Work Center on Feb 26th. A poker table, library, lounge chairs, television, and internet accessible computers will be available for drop-in local veterans to use or for members to attend Legion Institute on-line. Veterans can stop by to relax, meet other veterans, and share ideas with others.

Robert Patton Remembered

With any local remembrance of the liberation of German concentration camps, there comes to mind Robert F. Patton. Robert was very active with his military unit association and worked well into his 90’s as an activist supporting remembrance of The Holocaust.

The American Legion Chapel Hill is again the host site for the 7th Annual Marathon Jam as a national day of service by musicians to benefit the Fort Bragg Fisher House. Fisher House is “a home away from home for wounded soldiers and their families.”

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Women’s Basketball team recognizes a local veteran at each hometown Carolina game. This project was Coach Sylvia Hatchell’s idea several seasons ago, when she wanted to do something special on Veterans Day.

We were pleased to host the District 12 Oratorical Contest at our post. We were supported by many members, our Ladies Auxiliary and by members of Mebane Post 95 and Durham Post 7. Ms.Oratorical Contest CH (2) – Copy Liduviana Veintimilla won district honors.
