Post 6 Honor Guard

An Honor/Color Guard is an important function of a Post by honoring veterans and their families at funerals and displaying the Colors at high visibility events.   In the past year the Post Honor Guard has grown and become very professional with a budget, uniform, a full complement of ceremonial rifles, and a knowledgeable armorer.  The members are very dedicated by practicing regularly and driving to ceremonies to perform at their own expense.  Even though the Honor Guard has numerous members, more Honor Guard members are needed due to the demand and availability of members at any one time.

The Honor Guard at Post 6 has been very active the past year.  As well as performing military honors at numerous funerals, we presented the Colors at the UNC Hospital Anatomical Gifts Memorial, Carolina Hurricanes hockey game, Hillsborough Christmas parade, Duke-UNC Basketball Cadet march (and helped with refreshments), the nationally advertised Flagstock concert at Post 6 honoring a UNC fraternity, Chatham County baseball and softball season openers, mobile Vietnam Memorial Wall in Roxboro, and numerous American Legion District and State Department conventions.  At some events we performed the flag folding ceremony and a three volley rifle salute.

Current Honor/Color Guard members are:  Leader—Lance Kress, Ed Gerhardt (Armorer), Ed Gill, Wade Gutreuter, Lonny Kylander, John Montross, Jim Parise, Raymond Reed, Robert Swanson, Robert Sweeney, Wally Washburn, and Cayden Washburn.
