Scout Court of Honor – Jan 30th

January 24, 2013 ChpHillP6 Court of Honor, Flag Retirement

Troop 505 announced that their Court of Honor will start as usual with a heart-warming Flag Retirement Ceremony. The troop will present 81 Merit Badge awards that have been earned, 17 Rank Advancements, and two Special Awards. The Court of Honor is scheduled for Wednesday, January 30, 2013 from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m.

Health Clinic Held for Vets

A local muscular therapist, Julie Donnelly, assisted local veterans by holding a class for post members. The class taught our members how to release body pain. This clinic was her idea as a fund-raising event that will benefit everyone! Non-members are asked to make a $15 donation to the Post’s 2013 American Legion Boys State Program.

Alex Werden, Chapel Hill High School student and Boy’s State participant, won the District 12 American Legion Oratorical Contest competition and now moves on to Division III competition.

Veterans Day 

Catholic Vets Raise Money for Amputees

November 20, 2012 ChpHillP6 amputees, Catholic Men, Christmas sharing

A number of our post members belong to St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Chapel Hill. Each year, since 2006, these men have promoted a Veterans’ Day weekend fundraiser. Their project benefits recent amputees who have returned from Afghanistan and other countries. They are now in the hospital at Ft. Bragg or Camp Lejeune.

On a quiet pond just off Legion Road, area veterans gather to spend a day fishing with their comrades. Some are learning to fly fish, some are more at home with a simple rod or cane pole. It’s not the equipment that counts, it is friendship, quiet times, and a gentle breeze that makes their day.
