Vincent Dodson Passes

Vincent T. Dodson, a 14-year member of our post, passed away on January 10, 2012. A long-time resident of Orange County, he served in the U.S. Army with the 320th Regiment, 35th Division, in Europe and received three battle stars.

Marathon Jam Returns – Feb 25th

John Santa, a local musician and event organizer, announced today that the Chapel Hill Marathon Jam is returning to American Legion Post 6 on Saturday, February 25th. The Post has made our facilities available in previous years and we are pleased to welcome them again.

Our very own Robert Patton, Adjutant, and our Post’s Legionnaire of the Year for 2011, is in the news this weekend. The Garner News (Garner, NC) has published a two-part series on his service in the 65th Infantry, life after the service, and what he is doing today to ensure that those who perished in the Holocaust are not forgotten.

Dogs Serving Veterans

Did you know that there is a local group training dogs for veterans with disabilities? Yes, right here in our own backyard there are people working to help veterans. It is Eyes, Ears, Nose and Paws (EENP). They were those sharp looking dogs in the Chapel Hill Christmas Parade.

A Christmas at Home

Our annual Christmas Party has a 92 year history. I don’t think any were missed, but I was not here for all of them, just the past 16. I’m a fairly new kid on the block.

Christmas at Post 6 is a time for renewal, for thanks, and for breaking bread with old friends and a few new ones, too.

Post Commander National Appointment

The American Legion National Commander Fang Wong of the Department of New York has announced the national appointment of District Vice Commander Lee Heavlin as a general member of the National Foreign Relations Council of The American Legion. The term of this appointment extends to the close of the 2012 Fall Meeting of he National Executive Committee.

Veterans Are Arriving at Carolina

The war is drawing down and our veterans are showing up in greater numbers at local colleges. The number of new veterans returning to Carolina and the Chapel Hill campus now numbers over 350! That is just the first wave and Carolina has a great facility and several outstanding and respected medical and dental programs.

NC Memorial Hospital Event for Veterans

The president of UNC Hospitals, Mr. Gary Park, is hosting an event to recognize our local veterans at NC Memorial Hospital the week of Veteran’s Day. The event will be at 2 p.m. on Thursday, November 10th. Guests are asked to join with the hospital staff in the main lobby of the NC Memorial Hospital.
