A Christmas at Home
Our annual Christmas Party has a 92 year history. I don’t think any were missed, but I was not here for all of them, just the past 16. I’m a fairly new kid on the block.
Christmas at Post 6 is a time for renewal, for thanks, and for breaking bread with old friends and a few new ones, too. This year we had 102 official attendees. With the wait staff, caterers and others, there were about 150 people smiling, laughing and having a lot of fun. One or two were heard to say that they did not recognize some of the members. That’s not unusual and that is one of the most important reasons for this annual event. It is our homecoming and family reunion.
If you missed it, you missed an outstanding event. It was awesome. There was a new one-hour social before the meal with open bar, a roaring fireplace, and honky tonk music with Bob Patton at the keyboard. He was so popular that we put out a tip jar and his tips went to the post party fund! Bob said, “Wow. I didn’t know I was that popular.”
Pete Jaeger is one of our new members and what a difference he made. He joined us for a few executive committee meetings and offered a challenge. He said he would do the leg work and set everything up, if we would entertain a silent auction at the party. We said, “Why not? What have we got to lose?” He did and with the help of Paul Horwhat we received lots and lots of donations from local shops and friends of the Legion. You did the rest! We took in at least $1,010 through your very generous bidding.
Our event chairman was 2nd Vice Commander Ed Gill and his band of elves! He had a lot of helpers and we mentioned them all at the dinner. We’ll post their names in our Christmas Party report on our main website. Watch for it! There are a lot of names of members and their families who helped make this event a great success. And, this party paid for itself through your attendance and the silent auction!
Our post is changing. The life of a post is full of exciting stories and people. If you have not been to a recent meeting, you are missing a lot. Take a look at our main post website for recent events. Come join in with others to continue our legacy.
Below is a photo sampler of the event, but we have many other pictures available for you to view courtesy of Lauralee H. Long and Elmer Hughes. Take a look.
