Hog Cooking Event – April 13, 2024

We are coming back in just days of this announcement update.  Are you ready for the excitement?  We are!

Mark your calendar and call your friends.  Tell them to wash up, pack the family, and head to the American Legion in Chapel Hill.  The Classic Cook-off will be ready to Saturday afternoon, April 13th, from noon to 6 p.m.

They are coming from all over to gather at Chapel Hill Post 6 to topple the champion and take home with them the coveted Best of Show moniker. Peoples Choice Award!  You can be part of the history-making event by attending as a “taste tester” and maybe you will guess which one is finally selected.  We think we can hold on tightly to the crown, but we will need your support by coming on by and checking all of the entries.

Join us for the thrilling 2024 American Legion Post 6 Cook-Off, where the sizzling flavors of North Carolina’s finest barbecue await! This North Carolina Pork Council-sanctioned event promises an epic showdown of culinary prowess. Compete in the Culinary Division for a chance to win prestigious trophies, cash prizes, and even entry into the NC Whole Hog Barbeque State Championship.

Or showcase your skills in the Blind Taste Division and vie for the coveted People’s Choice Award. Remember to adhere to the strict rules and regulations, ensuring a fair and exciting competition. Don’t miss the Chief Cooks meeting on Friday night to determine the judging order, then get ready to fire up those grills and showcase your BBQ mastery. With live music, delicious food, and friendly competition, it’s an event you won’t want to miss!

Stop!  Before you gather up your rigs, children, and family for our event…

We have moved from our historic Legion Road site to a modern veteran family-friendly site near NC HWY 54 W at White Cross Road.

Click here for directions.  Just like Momma said, “Think.  Measure twice and cut once.”  That means, “Plan carefully before you do.”

Attention all area veterans.  Did you know that you are eligible to join the American Legion?  While you are walking around our 128-acre, 15,000 sqft home, imagine being a part of something really big.  We are at a new site, our third home in Chapel Hill.  We have been here in Chapel Hill from our beginning in 1919 and we make history by serving veterans, their families, and our community.  It is easy to join and we can sign you up while you are here.  Just ask any Legionnaire, “Can I Join You?”  We will do the rest and you will be on your way to doing something great in your town, Chapel Hill, and Orange County.
