The American Legion is about community support. We, the war veterans of Chapel Hill and nearby communities, have pledged ourselves, our time, our talents, and our resources to the betterment of Scouting. We have done this since our formation in 1919. We are as old as scouting itself.
We believe that we have a valuable asset, our facilities and grounds, that can be shared by our local scouts. They need a safe place to gather; an oasis in our crowded community. That is our Post. Our reward is knowing that we are contributing to their well-being and are providing them with a site where they can learn about nature, about themselves, and about the importance of teamwork.
Troop 39 spent most of its life as a Charter Troop of Post 6. Today, we have chartered Troop 505 and Venture 505. We also support local Boy and Cub Scout Jamborees.
Here are some examples of recent Troop 505 accomplishments:
- Department of North Carolina Troop of the Year Award 2012 – Robert Shaw West
- Eagle Scout Project – Picnic Tables for Post – Harrison Czajkowski
-
Boy Scouts of America –
Project – Dallas West
- American Legion Division Boy Scout High Adventure Trek Scholarship – Harrison Czajkowski
- Rehabilitation and Forestry Project at Post 6 – 2012
