World War II Vets Honored

The Friendly City Civitan Club of Durham hosted local World War II veterans at their luncheon on Monday, September 17th.   This was their annual luncheon honoring veterans.   Robert Patton, U.S. Army, and European Theater veteran, and Major Bud Hampton, USMC (Ret.), of the Pacific Theater and an Iwo Jima survivor, were recipients of framed photographs of them during World War II.  Ten other veterans also received framed photographs.

The guest speaker was John Mims of Aberdeen, NC.  Mr. Mims survived the Bataan Death March.  He shared his experiences as he honored those who did not survive.  Read story
