NCDE Governor Andy Leggette welcomes Bud Hampton

Major Everett “Bud” Bud Hampton, USMC (Ret.), recently served as guest speaker at The Friendly City Civitan of Durham, NC.  The Civitans were holding their 9th Annual Veterans’ Appreciation Luncheon with 72 area veterans attending.

Forty-eight veterans representing World War II, Korea, and Vietnam wars were honored. Bud saw combat not only in World War II, including Iwo Jima, but he also returned to overseas command combat Marines in Korea during the Korean War. He served 22 years in the Marine Corps and made Chapel Hill his home.  He was awarded two Bronze Stars and two Purple Heart medals.  In 1984, Major Hampton received the Order of the Long Leaf Pine from then Governor Jim Hunt.
