UPDATED @/21/26

Since 1938, The American Legion’s National Oratorical Contest has helped youth deepen their understanding of the Constitution, develop leadership, and earn scholarships through public speaking.  Post 6 has been active since moving to our current location.

Three students competed at Post 6 after being selected at their local high schools competed in our annual Oratorical Contest.  The contest challenges these students in public speaking.  They have 10 minutes to speak on a topic of their choice.  The Winner goes on to the district level on 7 Feb.  The 2026 National Finals will be held May 15–17 at Hillsdale College.

Dominik placed second at the regional competition on 2/21/26.  With that, he moves on to the state competition.   The NC Department contest will take place in Hope Mills on 28 Mar 26.

Contest is in two parts. Part 1 is 8-to-10-minute speech on any aspect of the US constitution.

Part 2 is 3-to-5-minute speech on an assigned Article of the US constitution. They don’t know which article until the contest. Contestants have 5 minutes to prepare the article and then speak for 3 to 5 minutes.

Our Post 6 winner was Dominik Bryant, of East Chapel Hill High School.  As the 1st place winner, he received a $500.00 prize which will be sent to the college of his choice as a scholarship.
Our Moderator was Sharon Hill.  She is the Post 6 Oratorical Chair.  This years other two contestants were Lucy Wang and Xinyin Zhang, also of East Chapel Hill High School.
