Vietnam and North Carolina

Just a little more than 50 years ago, military advisors started arriving in Vietnam.  They were there until 1975.  Over 9 million men and women served during the Vietnam conflict era and 2,709,918 serve in-country and there were  47,378 hostile deaths. Learn more

Do you have any idea how many were from North Carolina?  How about how many deaths were attributed to North Carolina soldiers, sailors, Marines, and airmen?

There were many and they included two local men.  Specialist 4 Joel Miller Leigh of Chapel Hill and PFC Joseph Deward King of Carrboro.  Both died in action in Quang Ngai Province, South Vietnam. You can read their story by clicking on their name.
