Legion Riders at Post 6?
We have been talking about Legion Riders at Post 6 for a number of years now, but we wound the spring, but it never quite sprung.
Commander Bill Munsee wrote, “Some of you may know I have been trying to start an American Legion Riders Club for the past five or six years without great success…Seems like every time we are ready to “pull-the-trigger” one of our riders has to drop out for one reason or another. With the new influx of younger Legionnaires, there has been an increase in the number of potential motorcycle riders and we are going to start again.
While we are not an official American Legion Riders Chapter at this time, several of us are going to go on a short ride this Friday at 10 a.m. (Jan 2, 2021). We will be leaving from the Post. It’s possible it will be raining and the ride may not be as long as we would like it to be. However, we’re going to give it a shot and we will be led by Nathan Mitchell (an NC State Trooper).
The call went out in our Commander’s Note No. 35 and four riders participated. Chaplain Jim Mackorell was asked to bless the assembled riders and said, “Why not!” But, wait!. The story of Jim blessing the riders got out and one of Jim’s friends, Robert (Bob) VanArsdall, invited Jim to travel in the caravan in his motorcycle’s sidecar! Again, Jim quickly said, “Well, Why Not!”
The riders took a short ride to the Mebane Cracker Barrell café for some coffee and then rode back to the Post.
If you would like to help form the Post 6 Legion Riders, please call Nathan at 919-749-3465 to sign-up. We are hoping to have our first Legion Riders meeting in late January so we can establish our club…If you’ve got a motorcycle, start charging your battery.
