Chapel Hill K9 Unit Demo at Post – Nov 8
The Chapel Hill K9 Unit frequents our post to train new K9 cadets and maintain the skills of both officer and K9 dogs. We see them often and we enjoy watching and observing them in action. This coming Tuesday, they will be working out at the post at about 5 pm and post members are welcome to observe them in training. The time is approximately 5 pm., Tuesday, November 8th.
Pete Jaeger has been watching them as he cuts the post grass. He reports, “Jason B. (Officer whose last name escapes me right now) has on several occasions been at the Post training his German Sheppard for “duty” whilst I’ve been mowing. Although I (personally) have had many dogs during my lifetime – mutts, Labs, Golden’s, Jack Russell Terrorists, and currently a Shih Tzu and trained a few with professional help (the Labs were terrific!) I was very impressed with officer Jason’s voice control/non-verbal commands with his Sheppard – He and I have had a number of chats about training and use of the CHPD’s canine unit(s) which were very informative.”
“… I did not know there was more than one unit and a lot of very IMHO interesting types of use for many “behind the scenes” duty of these amazing dogs that the general public rarely if ever is witness to … poor grammar but trust you get my drift I hope and all this just to tell you I was very impressed and asked Jason if they ever did demo’s etc., which leads us to our “date” with two officers and dog(s?) next Tuesday,”he continued.
So, the team will be on site and we are welcome to see a demo of the dogs in action. Come and join us and a delightful experience before our normal social hour and meal starting at 6 p.m.
