Passing of Past Post 6 Auxiliary President Lisa Heavlin
NOTICE CORRECTION TO FUNERAL SERVICE START TIME – 10 A.M.
A Special Note from the Post Commander
Dear fellow legionnaires, it is with deep regret that I report to you the loss of Lee and Yoli’s daughter, Lisa Heavlin. After a two month battle, she succumbed to a serious illness on Saturday, October 27th, surrounded by her family and many close friends.
You may remember Lisa as a staunch Auxiliary supporter and energetic woman who always supported the American Legion in spirit and in duty. She also served as Chapel Hill Post 6 Auxiliary President. She and her fiancé (who also recently passed) always volunteered for many of our projects and functions.
She joined with other Heavlin family members in personal hands-on restoration work of Post 6 during our initial phase of Post 6 Restoration.
Lee has been a post member for 20 years and for all those years Lisa has worked alongside him on Post projects, Memorial Day, and many other American Legion programs and conferences. As Robert Patton frequently said, “When Heavlin goes to work, you get the Heavlin Family.” She will be missed by all of those who knew her and her big, beaming smile at the Legion and in the local community.
I believe the best way we can show support for Lee and Yoli is to attend the funeral services as your schedules permit. Wear your Blue American Legion cap. Those services are as follows: Funeral Mass, 10 a.m., Thursday, November 8, 2018, at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 940 Carmichael St, Chapel Hill, NC 27514. Inurnment will take place immediately after the funeral mass and at the church columbarium. A reception and celebration of life follows at about 11 a.m. in the Friends and Family Hall.
The family suggests a donation in her honor to the Jim and Betsy Bryan Hospice Home (UNC Healthcare), Pittsboro, NC, in lieu of flowers.
Lee, Yoli, Lauralee, and Jorge, on behalf of all the Legionaries at Post 6, we want to express our deepest condolences to your family.
Bill Munsee, Post 6 Commander
